Hunters Hill Backyard Renovation

This Hunters Hill backyard renovation has turned their outdoor area into a versatile, family-friendly retreat. Designed with both style and function in mind, the space combines hardwood timber features, artificial turf, and paved pathways to create a balanced and low-maintenance outdoor living area.

Backyard Renovation with Timber Retaining Wall and Seating

A custom-built hardwood timber retaining wall provides structure and definition to the garden, offering strength and durability that will last for years. To make the space more practical, we transformed the edge of a raised garden bed into built-in seating by capping it with hardwood timber boards. This dual-purpose feature acts as both a retaining edge and a comfortable timber bench seat, offering the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors whilst keeping an eye on the kids playing.

Backyard Renovation with Artificial Turf and Garden Paths

Artificial turf was installed to create a lush, green lawn that requires little upkeep. It’s soft underfoot, safe for children, and an ideal play surface for toys and outdoor activities. Unlike natural grass, the turf stays neat and vibrant year-round, making it an excellent choice for busy families.

To tie the space together, paved steppers surrounded by decorative pebbles were added to form garden paths. These pathways improve movement around the yard while adding texture, drainage, and a stylish design element that complements the timber and lawn areas.

A Practical, Family-Friendly Outdoor Space

This backyard renovation balances durability with comfort. The artificial turf creates a reliable play area, the hardwood timber seating provides a place for relaxation, and the paved garden paths ensure easy flow throughout the yard drawing people to the pool at the back of the property. The result is a modern outdoor space that looks beautiful, is easy to maintain and works well for everyday family living.

Frequently Asked Questions – Backyard Renovations

How long does artificial turf last in a backyard?
High-quality artificial turf can last between 10–15 years with proper care. It is UV-stabilised to withstand the Australian sun and is durable enough to handle kids’ play, toys, and everyday use.

What are the benefits of artificial turf over natural grass?
Artificial turf requires no mowing, watering, or fertilising and stays green all year round. It provides a clean, low-maintenance lawn that’s perfect for busy families and homes with shaded or high-traffic areas.

Why use hardwood timber for retaining walls and seating?
Hardwood timber is strong, durable, and naturally resistant to pests and decay. It also adds a warm, natural look to garden structures, making it ideal for retaining walls and built-in seating.

What are paved steppers with pebbles, and why use them?
Paved steppers surrounded by decorative pebbles create stylish, practical garden paths. They improve flow between lawn and garden areas while adding texture, drainage, and a modern design feature.

Can a retaining wall also be used as seating?
Yes. By capping a raised garden bed or retaining wall with timber boards, you can create a comfortable, dual-purpose seat that blends seamlessly into the garden.

Is artificial turf safe for children and pets?
Absolutely. Modern artificial turf is non-toxic, soft underfoot, and safe for both kids and pets. It’s also easy to clean and maintain.

How do backyard renovations add value to a property?
Well-designed landscaping improves usability, enhances kerb appeal, and creates attractive entertaining spaces. Features like artificial turf, timber seating, and garden paths can significantly boost property value.

Hunters Hill - Cobblestone Driveway, Hardwood timber fence

This Hunters Hill landscaping project was designed to deliver a refined, high-end outcome that complements the calibre of the surrounding homes. Our client’s brief was that they wanted a timeless, elegant landscape with strong street appeal. As a result, significant design planning was undertaken before construction commenced to ensure every element worked seamlessly together.

The standout feature of this project is the beautifully hand-crafted cobblestone driveway, which immediately establishes a sense of arrival and sophistication. Using premium driveway cobblestone pavers, the driveway was meticulously hand-laid to achieve a classic, European-inspired finish. This type of cobblestone paving is a highly skilled and labour-intensive process, requiring precision at every stage. It begins with a carefully poured and engineered concrete base, which is critical to ensuring the longevity, strength, and structural integrity of the finished driveway.

Cobblestone Driveway – Timeless Materials and Expert Craftsmanship

Choosing cobblestone pavers for driveway applications offers both aesthetic and practical benefits. The natural texture and subtle variation of the stone create depth and character that simply can’t be replicated with standard paving. Over time, the driveway will continue to age beautifully, further enhancing the home’s appearance and long-term value.

To complete the front entrance, we designed and installed custom galvanised steel and hardwood railing, which adds a contemporary edge while maintaining a timeless feel. This feature integrates seamlessly with the hardwood timber fence, creating a cohesive front garden design for the home that enhances privacy, safety, and overall curb appeal.

Cobblestone Driveway Design That Connects Front and Back

The design style established at the front of the property flows through to the backyard, ensuring consistency throughout the landscape. Natural stone stepping stones guide you through the garden, leading into a lush, private outdoor space that opens to the pool area. This thoughtful design layout creates a sense of balance and connection between structured hardscaping and soft, green landscaping.

Every aspect of this project was executed with precision, care, and an unwavering focus on quality. From the foundations beneath the cobblestone driveway to the finishing details across the fencing, railings, and garden spaces, no detail was overlooked. The result is a sophisticated, enduring landscape that enhances both lifestyle and property value creating a space our clients will enjoy for many years to come.

Jamie and team did a fantastic job for us. We had used them before and knew we wanted to get them back. This time it was a complete KDRB landscaping job. They navigated our landscaping plan with ease but were also able to accommodate changes of mind or added extras. They worked tirelessly to get our job done by Christmas. All the boys are very polite and our 3 little girls loved chatting to them. All work was completed to an excellent standard.
