Concord - Natural Stone Cladding

Natural Stone Cladding for Wall Design & Tiered Backyard Spaces

This Concord landscaping project showcases how Natural Stone Cladding can completely transform an outdoor space while perfectly complementing a Hamptons-style home. Our client wanted a timeless, elegant design that felt relaxed yet structured, with a strong focus on symmetry, balance, and a neutral colour palette. The result is a cohesive landscape that blends beautifully with the home’s architecture while setting the foundation for a lush, maturing garden.

A key feature of this project is the expertly constructed retaining wall finished with premium stone cladding for wall applications. This natural stone cladding wall not only adds visual depth and texture but also serves a practical purpose, creating a tiered backyard layout that maximises usable space. By dividing the yard into distinct levels, we were able to introduce multiple functional zones while maintaining a seamless flow throughout the landscape.

The use of stone cladding walls brings a sense of permanence and natural beauty to the space. Its earthy tones and organic texture soften the structural elements, ensuring the design feels warm and inviting rather than overly formal. As the surrounding planting continues to establish, the greenery will contrast beautifully against the stone, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Stone Cladding Walls Paired with Natural Materials & Outdoor Features

To complement the natural stone cladding, we incorporated a range of high-quality, neutral materials that tie the entire design together. In the backyard, a custom handcrafted sandstone fire pit seating area was created, providing a stunning focal point for entertaining. Set on a natural decomposed granite base, this space offers both functionality and a relaxed, inviting atmosphere for year-round use.

The alfresco area features elegant travertine paving, carefully selected to harmonise with the tones of the stone cladding walls. This ensures a consistent material palette across the entire outdoor space, reinforcing the classic Hamptons-inspired design.

In the front yard, the same attention to detail continues with a bluestone paver pathway that clearly defines the entrance and enhances street appeal. This natural stone pathway complements the stone cladding used throughout the project, creating a unified look from front to back.

Overall, this Concord project highlights how natural stone cladding can be used to achieve a sophisticated, timeless landscape design that balances structure with softness. With its combination of practical construction and refined material selection, this outdoor space is designed to evolve beautifully as the garden matures.

What our happy client’s had to say…

We are so grateful to Pat, Jamie and the amazing team from Concept landscaping for creating this beautiful and functional garden space we will cherish for years to come.

What made the Concept team a standout to us were: – in comparison to other quotes, they were able to not only translate our rough ideas we wanted but also provide a range of suggestions that worked wonderfully. Jamie also took into consideration our house design and really made it feel like an extension of our home.

– Jamie’s extensive experience allowed us to feel very comfortable for all aspects – e.g knowing that we would have adequate drainage, stonework and paving looking mint, high quality turf etc.

– Similarly their price was very reasonable given the finished product. We personally really appreciated the sustainable aspect of Jamie’s suggestion of a fence repair and clean over replacement.

Given a landscaping project can be a very significant expense, we can truly say the landscape has added so much value to not only for us but the house too!

– The Concept team were also extremely neat and tidy; tools and equipment were always stowed and areas cleaned each day, testament to how much care Jamie and the team take each day.

Furthermore, we never felt Jamie rushed the job, everything had its own time to ensure it was done well and the house was also left just as he had found it. – Pat and Jamie were always attentitive to any ideas and/or concerns we had and both their passion shone through. They made us feel at ease all throughout the project and our neighbours remarked on how knowledgable they were too!

The only bad news Jamie ever delivered to us was saying that it was his last day onsite – we thoroughly enjoyed having them over as there were always laughs and we loved seeing the space come together.

Thank you so much to Pat, Jamie and the team from Concept 🙂

What is natural stone cladding and why is it popular in landscaping?

Natural stone cladding is a decorative and functional layer of real stone applied to walls, retaining walls, and outdoor features. It’s popular because it delivers a premium, timeless look while also being highly durable. Many homeowners choose natural stone cladding to enhance street appeal and create a seamless connection between their home and outdoor spaces.

Where can stone cladding be used in outdoor landscaping projects?

Stone cladding is incredibly versatile and can be used for retaining walls, feature walls, garden edging, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and entry pillars. Stone cladding for wall applications is especially effective in tiered gardens, where both structural support and visual appeal are important.

Is natural stone cladding suitable for retaining walls?

Yes, natural stone cladding is an excellent choice for retaining walls. It is typically applied over a structurally engineered wall, combining strength with a high-end finish. Stone cladding walls provide both durability and a sophisticated aesthetic, making them ideal for sloped or tiered landscapes.

How long does stone cladding last in outdoor conditions?

When professionally installed, natural stone cladding can last for decades. It is resistant to weather, moisture, and UV exposure, making it perfect for Australian conditions. Proper installation and drainage are key to ensuring long-term performance.

Does natural stone cladding require much maintenance?

Natural stone cladding is relatively low-maintenance. Occasional cleaning and sealing (depending on the stone type) will help preserve its appearance. Compared to painted or rendered surfaces, stone cladding walls tend to age more naturally and gracefully.

What materials pair well with natural stone cladding?

Natural stone cladding works beautifully with materials like travertine, bluestone, sandstone, timber, and concrete. Combining these elements helps create a cohesive and balanced landscape design, especially in Hamptons or contemporary-style homes.

Is stone cladding a good investment for property value?

Yes, stone cladding is considered a premium landscaping feature that can significantly boost property value and street appeal. High-quality stone cladding walls create a strong first impression and are highly desirable among buyers.

How much does natural stone cladding cost in Sydney?

The cost of natural stone cladding can vary depending on the type of stone, wall size, access, and installation complexity. While it may be a higher upfront investment, its durability and visual impact make it a cost-effective long-term solution.

Can natural stone cladding be customised to suit my home style?

Absolutely. There are many types, colours, and finishes available, allowing natural stone cladding to be tailored to suit Hamptons, modern, coastal, or traditional homes. A professional landscaping team can help select the right stone to match your design vision.

Why should I hire a professional for stone cladding installation?

Professional installation ensures the structural integrity, correct drainage, and long-term durability of your stone cladding walls. Poor installation can lead to movement or water issues, so working with experienced landscapers is essential for a lasting result.
